Training Scheme

The last training day for Southern Sporting Training scheme is 3rd November – restarting March 2019. Please do not hesitate to contact us to be contacted for CBT and further training. Wishing all current and future training members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year..

The Southern Sporting MCC has been training motorcyclists since 1948 and was one of the first RAC/ACU training schemes in the country. Today as then all instructors are trained volunteers, although the scheme became fully independent when the RAC withdrew from Training in 1982.

The Training Scheme offers DVSA approved one-to-one training to CBT standard and onward development up to the Accompanied Test standard. The Training Scheme is based in Isleworth, Middlesex and operates on Saturday afternoons only subject to availability.

The CBT course syllabus includes five elements that have to be completed in sequence:

Element A – Introduction.  Chat about what CBT is and why it is required.

Element B – Practical on-site training.   Introduced to your bike and maintenance

Element C – Practical on-site riding.    Getting you going.

Element D – Practical on-road training.    Chat before going on to the road – what to expect.

Element E – Practical on-road riding.     Getting on the road.

When you have satisfactorily completed all five elements you will be issued with a Certificate of Completion of Training (DL196 or “CBT certificate”). This is a legal document, which serves to validate the relevant entitlements on the valid driving licence. You are still a learner and must comply with all appropriate legislation for the relevant licence category.

Your  CBT Certificate (DL196 certificate) validating a provisional moped or provisional motorcycle entitlement lasts for 2 years. CBT will have to be re-taken if both theory/practical tests are not passed within the 2-year certificate life.

Further Practical Training to Test Standard – available.  Production of valid CBT certificate and licences required, and if using your own bike, sight of valid machine documentation (V5, insurance and MOT, if required)
